Boarding With Us

Boarding With Us

Rest assured our veterinary and nursing staff want to ensure that your pet has a happy and relaxing stay at our hospital. Our job is to make their boarding experience the best it can be. Please read the information below to help prepare for your pet's boarding.

Contact Details

We ask that you provide your own contact details and a secondary contact while your pet is with us. Our nursing staff are constantly monitoring your pet. Should any issues arise, we may contact you and recommend a veterinary health check.

If our Veterinarians discover any notable findings on the examination of your pet, these concerns may be relayed to you upon check-out. In the event our veterinarians are significantly concerned about your pet, we will contact you with any recommendations regarding treatment options.
If we are unable to contact you, any veterinary treatment deemed necessary during the period of boarding will be undertaken and charged at standard rates.

Health and Dietary Requirements

All pets must be in good health on arrival and up to date with their vaccinations, intestinal worming and flea treatments. For pets not vaccinated at one of our AMS Veterinary Hospitals a proof of vaccination with a valid certificate will be required. Pets deemed unwell or unvaccinated may be refused entry to boarding. In some circumstances unvaccinated pets may be vaccinated on admission with owner’s consent.

Our boarding guests receive premium wet & dry pet foods. We only use brands that are highly regarded by veterinarians and pet nutritionists for their quality ingredients and targeted health benefits.

If your pet has special requirements, you are welcome to bring in your own food. This may also be useful for pets who may have a fussy appetite and are finicky eaters.

Happy Pets

Our staff and facilities are all about keeping your pet comfortable and stress-free. However, it is possible for some pets to become anxious when they are in a new environment or away from their owners.

If you feel this may be the case, please talk with our team. We can offer several products, supplements and medications which when added to your pet’s environment or food can help them settle into their new ‘home away from home.’ These products can be requested at check in or in advance.
  1. Zylkene is a tasty, naturally-occuring powder derived from milk protein which is well-known to promote relaxation in newborns after breastfeeding.
  2. Individual Feliway and Adaptil sprays added to your pets bedding and enclosure can replicate natural pheromones and instil a sense of comfort and reassurance in cats and dogs.
  3. Veterinary Prescribed Medications can assist with pets who are nervous and help with relaxation and improve appetite and gut health.

Often it may be useful to start these additives up to a week before your pet arrives as well as during their stay. They may also be continued after check out to help the transition from our facility back to your home.

Comforts of Home

When your pets stay with us it may help to have something from home such as a favourite toy. A familiar scent, on a blanket or piece of clothing with your and/or your pet’s aroma on it, is great for pets.

If you do intend to leave an item for your pet, please ensure they are clearly labelled. We  recommend that you do not provide anything of high sentimental or commercial value, as occasionally things do get lost or damaged during the stay or cleaning process.

Arrival and Home Time

Note - pets are only admitted and discharged during opening hours.
Pets are unable to be admitted or picked up on Public Holidays.

Payment

Please note that full payment for your pet’s boarding stay is required on the day of admission or in advance to secure a booking.

Pet Carriers - Pre-arrival Tips

  1. One of the most important stress reducers is getting your pet accustomed to being in their carrier. If they only see the carrier once or twice a year (when they are heading to the vet), then chances are they will resist getting into the carrier – it’s an unfamiliar environment that has historically led to them being jabbed with a needle.
  2. The key is to create a positive link between your pet and their carrier to reduce these negative associations. We recommend that you bring the carrier out well in advance of the boarding date.
  3. Place it in a prominent position in your house where your pet will have plenty of interaction with it. Let your pet use it as a nap space and offer treats in there. Place their food bowls in there for a few meals prior to boarding. Place toys in there. Place a blanket or other item that has your smell on it as this will make the carrier seem more familiar to them.
  4. You can also periodically bring the pet carrier out throughout the year, even when you have no plans to visit the vet or boarding and initiate some of these ideas just to continue the positive link between the carrier and your pet.
  5. Finally, consider spraying some Feliway (cats) or Adaptil (dogs) spray in the carrier to create a calm and safe place for them prior to their journey to our facility.
